About Me
My Training and Academic Work
My name is Dave Smith and I am a Counselling Psychologist focussing on managing, stress, anxiety and burnout. I have specialist training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
I became inspired to study and practice psychology through seeing others struggling to get effective treatments they needed for mental health difficulties. My aim is to bring effective and accessible therapy to people through collaboration, compassion and care. I practice in CFT, ACT and CBT which have an established evidence-base and are at the leading scientific edge of alleviating human suffering.
I regularly teach CFT on the Doctorate of Clinical Psychology and Undergraduate Psychology Programmes at Canterbury Christchurch University.
How can I help you ?
I help clients work towards their specific goals in therapy, guided by what is important to them in their lives.
My Interests....
Alongside being a psychologist I have a strong interest in music and performance which have been a source of creative fulfillment, self-care and community. I also have a love of travel and learning about different cultures.
